On July 10-11, 2009 I am going to bike 200 miles in the 2nd Annual Prouty Ultimate Double Century Ride to raise money for cancer research and patient services at Dartmouth's Norris Cotton Cancer Center.
My family and I have been terribly affected by cancer and cancer related disease. In the past few years, I have lost my grandfather, my father, two uncles (Jean and Francois Xavier), and several school and work colleagues to cancer. This past October Suzanne underwent a bone marrow transplant in connection with a cancer related disease. Fortunately, she is doing very well, and is on the road to recovery.
Cancer does not discriminate, and far too many of us have been, or will be, terribly affected by this disease. The courageous struggles of my family and friends have inspired me to try to contribute, in some small way, to the fight against cancer.
Two hundred miles is quite a distance and The Prouty Ultimate route from Manchester to Hanover, NH and through the Connecticut River Valley is challenging. But when I think of my friends and family who have battled cancer, I know that my bike ride is nothing in comparison.
I have pledged to raise $3000 this year for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center. By supporting the doctors and researchers who work tirelessly to cure this disease, we can contribute to the fight. All the money raised helps to support cancer research and patient services at Norris Cotton Cancer Center, in Lebanon, NH, one of only 40 comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Institute for excellence in cancer research, care and community outreach. Research conducted here informs patient treatment around the world.
Donations should be received by July 8, 2009. I hope you will give generously to this cause. Thank you so much for your support.
